Students Suspended For Holding Airsoft Guns In Photo Taken In Living Room

Two Massachusetts high school sweethearts—Tito Velez and Jamie Pereira—are suspended from school after posing with Airsoft toy guns for a photograph at home before attending a homecoming dance last week.

Pereira and Velez are students at Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School. The photo was taken by Velez’s father in their living room and then posted to Facebook.

According to, Pereira said, “We took [the pictures] with the Airsoft guns because that’s our hobby, and we wanted to include them.” But school officials argue that the photo caused “a disruption at the school.”

School district superintendent Dr. Richard Gross said he didn’t have a problem with the Airsoft guns, and he understands free speech. However, he “takes issue with the caption below the photo that reads ‘Homecoming 2014.'” He added: “When you tie that to a school event, that’s something to be concerned about.”

Velez defended the couple’s photograph on CBS Boston, explaining that the guns are toys that shoot plastic pellets. Yet Dr. Gross said the entire homecoming dance would have been canceled had police discovered the photo prior to the start of the event.

The suspension may last as long as 10 days, although the superintendent says there will be a hearing to consider reducing the punishment.

After I take photos of family or other functions, I always title it with descriptive words so that years later, when I feel nostalgic, and look at pictures of times gone by, I’ll know when and where the shots were taken.  I don’t see the difference here.  Gross claimed that had the police known about the photo, they would have shut down the dance altogether.  I tend to believe that as Massachusetts is a state in which Islamic terrorists live and torment Americans whenever their paths cross.  That state is like a third-world country, surrounded on all sides, by states of the United States of America.  Massachusetts’ state legislative body leans so far Left it lies on its side, and it continues to rotate.  Here’s a thought, I wonder if Dr. Richard Gross is a racist!?  Hmmmmmmmmmm . . . .

Not Backing Down: 8th Grader Suspended, Arrested Over His NRA T-Shirt Returns to School…Wearing the Exact Same Shirt

8th Grader Suspended, Arrested Over His NRA T Shirt Returns to School Wearing the Exact Same Shirt

Disciplined 8th-grader Jared Marcum returned to class on Monday after being suspended from school and arrested for refusing to change his NRA t-shirt at the request of one of his teachers. The shirt apparently pictured a firearm and the words “protect your rights.”

However, he apparently hasn’t learned his lesson — assuming that there was even any lesson to be learned. Fresh off his suspension, Marcum showed up to school on Monday wearing the exact same NRA shirt that sparked what many have labeled “t-shirt control.”

There were also other people wearing matching shirts in support of Marcum, WOWK-TV reports.

“There’s a lot of people wearing this same exact shirt, showing great, great support and I really appreciate it,” the student said Monday before going to school.

WOWK 13 Charleston, Huntington WV News, Weather, Sports

WOWK-TV has more:

Jared’s father, Allen Lardieri, says getting Jared back into school was his first priority.

We’ve completed the first leg of what we wanted to accomplish here,” Lardieri said.  ”Now, we’re working on the next step, which is trying to clear his name.”

Lardieri says that he was informed by Logan City Police on Thursday that his son was facing two charges, obstructing an officer and disrupting the education process. However, Jared’s attorney Ben White says that wasn’t the police department’s call to make.

“He was arrested, he was put into handcuffs, he was removed from the school and brought to the Logan City Police Department,” White said. “Charges aren’t officially filed or brought until the prosecuting attorney’s signs off on them and they don’t do that willy nilly.  They do that after a thorough investigation.”

That investigation is currently underway, according to authorities. Leading the investigation is juvenile prosecuting attorney Sabrina Deskins.

TheBlaze will monitor updates to this story.

Understanding of the following subject matter will be enhanced by the reading of the preceding “Contemporary Illustrations…”

After being elevated to the educational level of 18th century Americans, in some areas, thereby understanding more how things should be, by the foregoing, read the common sense ‘Summary and Conclusions’.

The Saving of America

The Sermon From The Mountain

How can this be possible you ask?  All of the foregoing pages described certain areas of our society and how they have been destroyed by permissive ignorance on your part.  You have allowed all the usurpation’s previously mentioned, and more, to occur because you thought it was better to be ‘enlightened’ and ‘understanding’ rather than to actually have to know such unprofitable and boring things like history, law, economics and government etc.  And you thought it was better to be ‘enlightened’ and ‘understanding’ rather than to actually have any sort of responsibility for your behavior especially regarding your children and their actions.  And you thought it was better to be ‘enlightened’ and ‘understanding’ rather than to actually have any sort of moral discipline in your life.   And heaven forbid if you actually had to get involved in local matters to do ‘your fair share’ to keep your end afloat! You say you have allowed elected judges to be replaced with appointed ‘friends of government’ judges.  You say you have allowed local sheriff and police departments to seize private property as they wish.

You say you have allowed the warrant-less seizure of children by government to ‘protect’ them in government foster homes and detention centers.  You say you have allowed the government school system to train yourself and your children in the etiquette of an immoral ‘global village’, while fostering ignorance of a true identity and heritage as Americans.  You say you have raised your children in a manner eschewing time honored traditional methods yet you are appalled by teenage violence.  You say you have allowed all forms of degenerate behavior to become not only ‘acceptable’ but encouraged ‘laws’ to be passed forcing those behaviors to be tolerated in public.  You say you have allowed laws to be passed that enable government to test your children and from the outcome determine their professional career path, thereby relieving you from the task of having to train them in diligence and work ethic.  You say you have given up rights to self defense and the carrying of weapons so that you would not have to spend time becoming proficient and then maintaining proficiency, let alone risking your life to defend someone you do not really love as much as you love yourself.

You have embraced all of the government’s propaganda on the increase in your future safety if government has all of the guns, then you applaud all of the unconstitutional and undeclared bombings and killings carried out by government in the name of peace.  You say you have allowed powerful trade unions to form in the medical and legal professions that so protect their guild and its members that any person traveling from another western country to here is absolutely appalled at the lack of service these guilds actually provide compared to their home country equivalents.   You say you have allowed government to form military organizations, that are more brutal and unlawful than any gangster organization, to inflict death and destruction at will upon smaller nations, and then you wonder why it is someone would want to launch terrorist attacks against American civilians.  You say you have allowed government to categorize you into selfish and hateful little sub-groups and countercultures so that you may be more easily overwhelmed than if there was one body of people called Americans.  You say you are perplexed when a disenfranchised member of some such little hate group sells valuable information to America’s traditional enemies, and stand idly by when government dismantles our military.  You say you have allowed government to regard some peoples lives as more valuable then others by calling attacks upon the select few as ‘hate crimes’.

You say you have allowed government to expand its dominion at will and create dozens of departments it has no authority to or any real need for other than political power grabbing.  You say you have allowed unelected petty clerks in these bastard branches of government make up their own rules and regulations and then enforce them with eager police departments, without so much as showing a single line of their regulations to Congress for the proper enactment into law.   You say you have approved of and encouraged the Individuals Representing Satan because somehow you believe you can get back more ‘freebies’ from government than monies thus stolen can purchase on the free market.   You say you have encouraged and applauded all the TV shows and movies that promote degenerate life styles and choices so that your own depravities may be made to look acceptable.  You actually believed the usurpers were wanting to overthrow this nation only to the extent that once your depravity comfort level was reached they would stop their progress because they are from the government and they are here to help little old special sub-group member you.  You have bitten off your nose to spite your face.   You have bitten the hand that feeds you.  You have set loose a gold fringed beast whose ways you do not understand and whose actions you do not control.  You have left the gate open and all of the cows have escaped.  And then you forgot to learn and apply the responsibilities and duties of a freeman so the Men in Gray have come and taken the farm.  “What can we do?  There is a lion loose in the streets devouring all he can!” you wail.

Is all lost?  Is there no hope?  Can you only stare at your impending doom like a deer on the road caught in your headlights?  What justification does a person who has participated in the overthrow of the foundations of this country, for his own selfish ends,  put forth as cause for someone else to rescue his cowardly, selfish life?  What justification can such a person, who is indeed a Traitor, put forth for even the notion that he should be rescued, that he is even worthy of rescue?  Under what principle can this occur?   Is it the common law that such liberals and communists have banned from the courts?  Is it under some magical power of the Constitution that such liberals and communists have sought to bury?  Is there some principle in a law that is not obeyed that it can be summoned from the grave at select times, to rectify problems caused by disobedience to it?  Can you take a lion’s quarry from him if he is still hungry?   Of what value to a freeman is the life of a Traitor?  What compelling force would require the freeman to rescue the Traitor from the monster the Traitor unleashed?   Is there some portion of the Communist Manifesto which requires all not yet subjugated to it to rescue those that have been imprisoned by it?

What hope does such an undeserving person, who squandered the most precious attribute of life, liberty, for his own selfish ends, have?  Does it seem likely that such weak, selfishly divided people could rally all of their little identity sub-groups en masse and force their Congressmen to reverse their ways?  How much more ludicrous is the thought that such a person would dare publicly admit his error by forming/joining a legitimate militia!  So what hope is there for such a person who is being devoured by the monster he unleashed when he himself is unwilling and unable to even defend himself, and the ones he does not love, much less destroy the beast?  Certainly the beast will not hesitate at the thought of devouring those who set him free.

How ironic that the very people whose way of life the Traitors sought to destroy, by being willing accomplices to the usurpers, are the only ones with the integrity, virtue, honor and courage to even contemplate such a thing!  Fortunately these people, the Real Americans, who are the Real Americans by conviction of heart not by birthplace, do love God and country before themselves.  These Real Americans who were my forefathers did not shirk from going up against the biggest army in world.  An army who was equipped with weapons that civilians were forbidden to own. (sound familiar?)  It is these people who are descendent from our forefathers by blood and or heart that will do the job, again.   And no others.

So the next time you see some Real American publicly decrying the Fed/IRS, the UN, gun control, abortion, sex education, promotion of depravity etc, and you happen to realize that he is right and you are wrong, check your tongue and do not condemn him, and encourage your friends to do so.  If, when you see that  Real American and you feel and understand that the issue he is promoting is essential for the country’s well being, smile and wave your support to him, and encourage your friends to do so.  If, when you see that  Real American promoting his cause and you can feel the pain that this country has suffered because of the turning away from the principle he is expounding upon, run up to him and shake his hand and tell him “Once I was lost, but now I am found, once I was blind but now I can see.” And encourage your friends to do so.

If on the other hand when you see that  Real American and your heart rages against him because he is exposing as falsehoods some non-existent rights that you claim are your defense for your depraved behavior, watch out!  John F. Kennedy in 1962 said this about such people as yourself “Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.”  For there is a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time for war and a time for peace.

Decorated Vet Arrested After ‘Rudely Displaying’ His Rifle — and Says Officer Pulled Gun on Him in Front of His Son

Army Master Sgt. C.J. Grisham Arrested While Hiking With Son for Rudely Displaying Rifle

(Photo via Fox News)

Army Master Sgt. C.J. Grisham was on a ten-mile Boy Scout hike with his son in Texas when he was arrested and accused of “rudely displaying” his firearm.  Knowing there are wild boars, coyotes, and cougars in the area, he had an AR-15 rifle slung over his shoulder and was also carrying a .45 caliber pistol, according to Fox News’ Todd Starnes.

A “huge Constitutionalist” and prominent military blogger, Grisham has served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan throughout his 18 years in the military.  He was awarded the Bronze Star with Valor for his service.

But on the day he was arrested in mid-March, Grisham says he was treated like a “street thug.”

He described how it all happened:

At about the 5 mile mark of our hike, a voice behind us asked us to stop and the officer motioned for us to approach him. He got out of his car and met us a few feet later. He asked us what we were doing and I explained that we were hiking for my son’s merit badge. He then asked me what I’m doing with the rifle, to which I responded in a calm manner, “Does it matter, officer? Am I breaking the law?”

At that point, the officer grabbed my rifle without warning or indication. He didn’t ask for my rifle and he didn’t suggest he would take it from me. He simply grabbed it. This startled me and I instantly pulled back – the rifle was attached to me – and I asked what he thought he was doing because he’s not taking my rifle. He then pulled his service pistol on me and told me to take my hands off the weapon and move to his car, which I complied with. He then slammed me into the hood of his car and I remembered I had a camera on me (one of the requirements of the hiking merit badge is to document your hikes)…Up to this point, I am not told why I am being stopped, why he tried to disarm me, or even that I’m under arrest.

The arresting officer is Officer Steve Ermis and the supervisor is Sergeant Minnicks of the Temple Police Department.

Grisham’s 15-year-old son recorded the entire incident, and the video is posted on YouTube.

In it, you can see a handcuffed Grisham repeatedly asking what he is being detained for.  TheBlaze spoke with attorney Michele Byington of Texas Law Shield who confirmed that, while Texas does have open carry laws, they don’t apply to “long guns,” like Grisham’s AR-15.  He would only be in trouble if he had been carrying the rifle in a way “calculated to cause alarm,” like waving it in the air — not strapped to his chest and pointed towards the ground.

(Photo: YouTube)

“In this day and age people are alarmed when they see someone with what you have [a rifle],” one of the officers explains, noting that someone had called the police. “They don’t care what the law is.”

“Do you care what the law is?” Grisham shot back.

Video shows the veteran continuing to elicit clarification as his hands are handcuffed behind his back, asking why the officers didn’t ask him to drop the weapon instead of resorting to such drastic action.

“I will not be in the habit of doing that for anybody with a firearm, because it’s dangerous,” one of the officers replies.

“So just because a guy’s got a firearm he’s dangerous?” Grisham responds.

“Yes sir,” the officer says.

The video has even more stunning dialogue, but Grisham says he is the most upset about how his son was treated, and how the incident will shape his view of the police.

“What a bad excuse you guys are showing for [the] police force,” Grisham says at one point.

“Actually, it’s a bad excuse as a dad,” one of the officers replies.

Todd Starnes at Fox News has more:

As the officers put Grisham in the back of the car, the video picked up sounds of [Grisham’s son] Chris crying.

The officers told Grisham they would take the boy home.

“I told him not to answer any questions,” Grisham said. “I told him not to answer a single question until his mother was there — and she would answer the questions for him.”

But that’s not what happened.

Chris told Fox News that the police officer refused to let him out of the car until he answered a series of questions. The boy had not been arrested.

“The officer told me that I wasn’t getting out of the patrol car until I answered his questions,” Chris said. “He said I didn’t have a choice. I was scared.”

Grisham said his boy was traumatized by the incident.

Every time he sees a police officer he has a panic attack,” he said. “That’s unfortunate because we always taught our kids to respect police officers. My wife and I are angry about it.”  [Emphasis added]

Chris told Fox News that he wants to be like his dad when he grows up.  “He inspires me,” he said, adding that his father “didn’t do anything wrong at all.”

At this point, roughly a month later, Grisham says is still “100 percent confused” about why he was arrested.  His charges were downgraded from resisting arrest to interfering with a peace officer while performing a duty, but he still thinks the situation is absurd and inexcusable.

“For me, it’s a difficult turning point,” the decorated veteran said.  “I wonder what it is that I’m fighting for.  If our basic rights are being violated this way — what is my purpose?”

TheBlaze has reached out to the Temple Police Department, but did not receive an immediate response.

“Where this case goes now is really up to a jury,” Grisham’s attorney Kurt Glass told TheBlaze.  “It’s up to the citizens of the state of Texas.”

The entire, unedited video from the scene is worth watching:

This post has been updated.

Editor’s note: An editing error in the headline originally suggested the father claimed multiple Boy Scouts were present.  It has been corrected to reflect that he was on a Boy Scout-related hike, but that his son was the only Scout present.

Retired Army Officer: DHS Must Surrender Their War Weapons to Dept. of Defense

Posted by Jim Hoft on Sunday, March 24, 2013, 10:51 AM

capt dhs
Captain Terry M. Hestilow, United States Army, Retired (Examiner)

On Saturday March 23, Terry M. Hestilow, a retired Army officer with nearly 30 years of service under his belt, posted this letter he sent to Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) this week. Hestilow wants DHS to hand over their war weapons to the Department of Defense.

The Honorable Senator John Cornyn, State of Texas
United States Senate
517 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20510

Re: Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and that agencies preparation for war against citizens of the United States of America

Dear Senator Cornyn,

It is with gravest concern that I write to you today concerning the recent appropriation of weapons by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that can only be understood as a bold threat of war by that agency, and the Obama administration, against the citizens of the United States of America. To date, DHS has been unwilling to provide to you, the elected representatives of the People, justification for recent purchases of almost 3,000 mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) armored personnel carriers, 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition (with associated weapons), and other weapons systems, when, in fact, the DHS has no war mission or war making authority within the limits of the United States of America.

Significant is the fact that at the same time the Obama administration is arming his DHS for war within the limits of the United States against the People of the United States in accordance with his 2008 campaign speech claiming,

“We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve gotta (sic) have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded [as the United States military]”–Candidate Barack Obama, 2008.

The Obama administration is deliberately defunding, overextending, and hollowing the Department of Defense; the only legitimate agency of the U.S. government with a war mission.

This act of the Obama administration stands as a glaring threat of war against our nation’s citizens!
This act of the Obama administration can only be understood as a tyrannical threat against the Constitution of the United States of America! If left unresolved, the peace loving citizens who have sworn to defend the United States Constitution “against all enemies, both foreign and domestic” are left no option except to prepare to defend themselves, and the U.S. Constitution, against this Administration’s “coup” against the People and the foundations of liberty fought for and defended for the past 238 years. We have no choice if we honor our oaths.

The only proper response to this threat against the American people is for the representatives of the People, the members of the U.S. House and Senate, to demand in clear terms that the Administration cannot ignore, that the Department of Homeland Security immediately surrender their newly appropriated weapons of war to the Department of Defense (DoD). Further, since the DHS has assumed a position in the Administration to enforce the tyrannical acts of this president against the People of the United States against the limits of the United States Constitution, it remains for the United States Congress to exercise its limiting power in the balancing of powers established by our founding fathers, to disestablish and dissolve the DHS as soon as possible. One needs only to look to the rise of Adolf Hitler, and his associated DHS organizations, the SA and the SS, of 1932-1934, to see the outcome of allowing an agency of government this kind of control over the free citizens of a nation. The people of Germany could not have imagined, until it was too late, the danger of allowing a tyrant this kind of power. We must not be so naïve as to think it will not happen to us as well if we remain passive toward this power grab by the Marxist Obama administration!

Finally, for more than two centuries the nation has lived in peace at home because of the protections of our legitimate military and the many appropriate state and federal law enforcement agencies, supported by Constitutional courts. We stand today at a cross-road. Will we allow this present Administration to overthrow our United States Constitution and its legal processes to amend injustices, or, will we honor our obligations to defend the Constitution against a “domestic” enemy? Our Constitution lays out the proper methods of resolving our differences; and it does not include its overthrow by a rogue agency of a Marxist leadership at home. You, sir, are our constitutionally elected agent to defend our Constitution at home. We are counting upon you. We remain aware, however, of this present threat and will not expose ourselves as an easy prey to the authors of the destruction of our nation.

I know that this letter demands much of you. We elected you because we, the citizens of the State of Texas, believe that you are up to the task at hand and will, against all threats, honor your oath and office. We are also writing to your fellow members of the House and Senate to stand in integrity with the Constitution and against this present threat by the Obama administration and his DHS.

We refuse to surrender our Constitution or our nation!

Dem Rep. on Candid Camera Admits: ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban Just the Beginning, Handgun Ban May Be Possible

Mar. 11, 2013 2:26pm

Rep. Jan Rep. Jan Schakowsky Admits Assault Weapons Ban Just the Beginning | Jason Mattera

A new video released by conservative activist Jason Mattera will surely have gun rights advocates up in arms. In an exchange with Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) that was caught on camera last month but only released Monday, the Democratic politician spoke openly about her gun control views, noting that current proposals are only the beginning.

Perhaps the most contentious portion of the dialogue, which purportedly took place at a women’s rights rally, is the section in which she seems to indicate that a much larger push against firearms could inevitably take aim at handguns.

At the beginning of the exchange, Mattera identifies himself but tells Schakowsky that he “appreciated her remarks” (he does not indicate his conservative worldview and she appears not to recognize him). Considering these tactics, his introduction potentially gained her trust, leading the congresswoman to candidly share her views. He also repeatedly addressed her using “we” and it appears as though Schakowsky doesn’t realize she’s being recorded.

“I was wondering, is it time we have a serious conversation not just about assault rifles, but about handguns as well?,” Mattera asked.

“Well, that’s why if we have universal background checks, that will effect every single kind of weapon,” she replied. “The Brady Campaign thinks that of all the things that have been suggested, this may actually be the thing that does the most to prevent gun violence.”

The congressional leader went on to say that there is a “moment of opportunity” and that political leaders are “going to push as hard as we can and as far as we can.” When Mattera then noted that most gun deaths are the result of handguns and questioned why addressing those type of firearms isn’t currently on the table, Schakowsky was candid, later adding that she’s personally opposed to handguns.

“We’re not going to be able to win that — not now,” she said. “But background checks I think are going to, you know, address any kind of weapon.”

Mattera, again, pushed handguns as a point of conversation, noting that a full-throttle ban could never be secured, considering the Second Amendment’s current wording.

“I don’t know. I don’t know that we can’t,” Schakowsky said, going on to note that some municipalities in her district have banned handguns, seemingly driving home the point that there is support among select cohorts for more restrictive measures in this arena. ”I don’t think it’s precluded.”

Watch the video, below:

It should be noted that Mattera used a number of misleading tactics in speaking with Schakowsky. In addition to telling her that he appreciated her words, he also used “we” when discussing the chances of achieving a handgun ban (i.e. “We’ll never get a handgun ban with the Second Amendment as stated”). These measures were  seemingly used to gain her trust and to make a foray into the conversation. We should also note the video is edited.

Since its inception, TheBlaze has maintained that reporters — especially conservative ones — should not rely upon these mechanisms for retrieving information, as they are misleading tools that do not allow for an ethical and robust pursuit for truth. That said, we do feel a responsibility to report on controversial comments made by public figures.

See police confiscate guns from Americans

From Katrina to Seattle to small-town Alabama, watch the unthinkable

He is also a photographer whose scenic work has been used commercially.More ↓

Is it possible – or even imaginable – that in the United States of America, police could go door to door and confiscate citizens’ legally owned firearms?

To many, such a concern is conspiratorial and evidence of paranoia. They might be surprised to learn that not only has outright gun confiscation of legally purchased weapons already occurred in a major way in the U.S., but public officials in some areas are right now attempting to pass legislation to allow more of the same.

Alas, with the national furor over multiple new gun restrictions being proposed by President Obama via “executive action,” in Congress, in state legislatures and in municipalities, the plan being forwarded by officials in Guntersville, Ala., this week drew scarcely a mention in the media.

Mayor Leigh Dollar says that in case of an emergency or crisis, she wants police officers to have the authority to “disarm individuals, if necessary.”

“We are not trying to infringe upon anyone constitutional rights whatsoever,” she says. “It’s just to protect the workers working out there in a disaster.”

The ordinance is up for debate at the city council meeting next week.

Such blatant grabs for guns are not new in the U.S. Less than a year ago, the Second Amendment Foundation fought a court battle over a North Carolina regulation that banned firearms and ammunition outside the home during any declared emergency, and won.

Get “Shooting Back,” the DVD about the man who fought off terrorists in his own church, and now explains why good people NEED guns.

And just days ago, it was revealed that a provision in a new Washington-state gun-control bill was so draconian that even its sponsors backtracked or denied any knowledge of it when they were confronted about it.

As Seattle Times columnist Danny Westneat reported , the “Orwellian” measure would allow the county sheriff to inspect the homes of owners of so-called “assault weapons” to ensure the weapons were stored properly.

In the post-Newtown debate, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke speaks for many of the nation’s sheriffs in saying such firearms seizure plans are flat-out unconstitutional and they won’t enforce them.

“The people in Milwaukee County do not have to worry about me enforcing some sort of order that goes out and collects everybody’s handgun, or rifles, or any kind of firearm and makes them turn them in,” he told radio talker Alex Jones. “The reason is I don’t want to get shot, because I believe that if somebody tried to enforce something of that magnitude, you would see the second coming of an American Revolution, the likes of which would make the first revolution pale by comparison.”

Is such a scenario even imaginable in the United States of America – the scene of officers pounding on your door, or worse yet, inside your home throwing you up against a wall and pounding on you because happen to have a legally owned weapon for self-defense?

Although many Americans don’t know it, that is exactly what happened in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Thousands of weapons – legally obtained and owned – were simply grabbed from citizens after New Orleans Police Superintendent P. Edwin Compass III announced, “Only law enforcement are allowed to have weapons.” Just to make sure the message was loud and clear, the city’s Deputy Police Chief Warren Riley told ABC News: “No one will be able to be armed. We are going to take all the weapons.”

Then they did exactly that.

One man at a post-Katrina meeting assembled in conjunction with the National Rifle Association said, “The bottom line is this. Once they did it, they set a precedent. And what we’ve got to be sure [of] is that the precedent stops here.”

In a series of videos, the NRA has documented the stunning weapons grab by police in New Orleans, assembling videos that show them physically taking weapons from individuals, including one woman who was stunned when officers threw her against her kitchen wall because she had a small handgun for self-defense.

The not-to-be-forgotten images, Part 1:

Part 2:

The police actions – many of the victims describe the gun confiscation as out-and-out theft – left New Orleans’ residents, who had been prepared to stand their ground and defend themselves from thugs and looters running amok, completely defenseless.

Richard Thompson, president of the Thomas More Law Center, told WND such plans “start smacking of a non-The United States of America” and more of “some Third World country.”

The government, he said, appears to want ever more control over people’s lives, which “is crippling the ability of people to defend themselves … in situations like a Hurricane Katrina where the police were nowhere around and people were taking up arms to protect their property.”

He noted that since the U.S. Supreme Court has determined police do not have a constitutional obligation to protect people from crime, self-reliance often can be the key to survival.

Gun confiscation schemes, then, mean “we’re going to have a citizenry that is helpless in the face of lawless people.” And that, said Thompson, is simply unconstitutional.

Herb Titus, a nationally known constitutional attorney and law professor, told WND government’s claim always is that such draconian powers will only be used “in an emergency situation.”

But there are so many “emergencies,” he said, that “all of our rights are in jeopardy.”

“It’s typical of the government to do this, typical of this age. You see the government believes it can make the decision for you better than you can make it for yourself. There’s a lot of this from the Obama administration,” he said.

The result? Government “as our master, rather than servant,” he said.

The danger is great, he added, noting that all the major scourges around the globe – Hitler, Mao, Stalin – started with weapons confiscation from victim populations.

Mathew Staver, chairman of the public interest law firm Liberty Counsel, told WND Americans “should be shocked and rightly concerned” at attempts to ban and confiscate guns.

“This is a significant threat to our freedoms,” he said. “When the government takes away the ability to defend yourself, it crosses the line.”

Recorded testimonies from the NRA videos are stunning, including these statements from law-abiding residents of New Orleans who were subject to the city’s “emergency” gun confiscation:

  • “They didn’t care what your rights were.”

  • “They were drawing down on ME?”

  • “I thought they were going to kill me.”

  • “They really did a number on me,” from Patty Konie, who was thrown against her kitchen wall by police officers taking her handgun.

  • “You’re treated like a criminal and you did nothing wrong,” from Richard Styron.

  • “The took something they didn’t have a right to take.”

NRA officials said on the organization’s video that even after the danger was over, gun owners were not allowed to get their weapons back. Some had been destroyed by police officers; others were taken without an identifying receipt, so the owners had no way to prove their ownership.

Several even had original purchase receipts, but were not allowed to retrieve their guns.

As a result, many of the victims of gun confiscation reported what they called almost “religious conversions” – from being apathetic about the Second Amendment to being strong supporters. One man reported 30 participants in his latest gun training class.

Experts warn the danger is real and current. Just days ago, the United States Army general credited with “restoring” order in post-Katrina New Orleans said Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel needs to ask for all the federal help he can get to fight the escalating violence in the Windy City.

Retired Lt. Gen. Russel Honore, who served as the commander of Joint Task Force Katrina in 2005, told WLS-TV in Chicago that similar efforts to those used in New Orleans are needed to restore order in Chicago.

“Well, you know, if we had a natural disaster, the mayor and the governor would be able to ask for a federal declaration and get all the government assistance to house and shelter people, and emergency power,” said Honore.

“We have a similar things happening on the human capital side,” he added. “That is communities that are being exploited by violence where our citizens who spent their lives in these communities are not free. That shouldn’t happen in America. The mayor and governor should ask for federal assistance in all of government. I’m talking about healthcare, educational opportunities, dealing with mental health issues, after school programs, and additional police that should control our streets. This is America.”

When asked by WLS if the National Guard should patrol certain streets of Chicago, Honore stopped short of endorsing the idea.

“I think that the first thing you do is have an expansion of police, bringing in other police officers from cities around Chicago and the state to control the situation and maintain control in the part of the city that has the violence. And surveillance, it’s amazing what happens when you put cameras on every corner. Reinforce the liberties of the people to be able to walk the street so little girls like [15-year-old Hadiaya] Pendleton don’t get shot.”

What about gun confiscation?

Honore said the same measures used in New Orleans are needed in Chicago.

That’s despite a murder death rate in Chicago that’s greater, over the past decade, than the number of American forces who have died in Afghanistan since the beginning of Operation Enduring Freedom. And yet the city remains one of the most difficult in the nation in which to buy or possess a firearm.

Outright gun confiscation would not be new to Chicago. In 1994, as the Chicago Tribune reported, special squads of police officers were sent to patrol the hallways and stairways at the Chicago Housing Authority’s Robert Taylor Homes. Then-Mayor Richard Daley said U.S. District Judge Wayne Andersen was allowing systematic, apartment-by-apartment searches by police under certain circumstances. Police Supt. Matt Rodriguez said the “mission teams” of patrol officers, detectives and gang crime specialists also were dispatched to other South Side areas.

Civil rights lawyers argued the warrantless searches and confiscations were blatantly unconstitutional.

Like Wisconsin’s Sheriff Clarke, hundreds of U.S. sheriffs have said they will not participate in gun confiscation, including Collin County Sheriff Terry G. Box, who posted on Facebook, “Neither I nor any of my deputies will participate in the enforcement of laws that violate our precious constitutional rights, including our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.”

MY TWO SENSE 12-16-12

The recent tragedy, in Connecticut, has us all saddened by the actions of a killer.  We are stunned and shocked, and we are wondering why this kind of thing continues to happen.  It seems that instances of mass murder, within this year, has increased in both number of victims, as well as in the number of times.  In my sixty-four years, I have lived through several events of mass murder and serial killings, but never, and not until this current year have I seen so many killers slaughtering more innocent people, in a very short period of time, in between one event and the next.  In fact, according to Mother Jones, “The horrific mass murder at a movie theater in Colorado on July 20, another at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin on August 5, another at a manufacturer in Minneapolis on September 27—and now the unthinkable nightmare at a Connecticut elementary school on December 14—are the latest in an epidemic of such gun violence over the last three decades.  (Actually, the “epidemic” was not an epidemic until the last four years.  Make of that what you will.)

What is seen here repeatedly is that the relationship between murders and gun ownership, or gun control, is not cut-and-dried. Not only are statistics collected differently, but also some numbers are greatly affected by suicide, which most everyone agrees is not related to gun ownership (neither globally nor regionally) though obviously an issue for individuals with susceptible people in their homes.

The truth is that neither gun ownership NOR gun control shows a statistically meaningful correlation.  Murder rates aren’t about guns.  They are about poverty, immigration, racial conflict, mental illness, etc.  The US has high crimes rates in the poorest areas, and we have a constant inflow of poor immigrants who are often more likely to be embroiled in conflict.  Some immigration cultures do not put the same value on human life as Americans do.

Within the US, though, you can find some correlations and meaningful numbers, but not in the way you might think.   Violent crime goes down the most in areas after “right-to-carry” laws are enacted.  John Lott, gun-control advocate, began to research correlations between gun control and deaths by guns.  He wanted to prove one thing, but his research showed that gun control did not lower the rate of crime with guns!  In other words, Lott found that gun control does not work.  Even those critics, who disagree, admit that his studies do show that arming law-abiding citizens does NOT increase violent gun crime!  Arming citizens is a deterrent to this kind of murder.

Mass shooters perpetrate their massacres in places where guns are not permitted in general—in schools, malls, and other “gun-free” zones.  Bans on specific guns don’t work either.  The killer, who is planning to shoot others, has no respect for gun-free zones as the rest of us do.  He seeks out such places where people gather in numbers.  (Lott advocates teachers carry and conceal weapons.)  Why not just control the number of humans under one roof?  That would bring down the the number of those murdered, obviously, but the idea is just as ludicrous as taking our self-defense protections away from us.

Illegal guns are not that difficult to buy, borrow, or steal.  We cannot free ourselves of guns.  They are easy to make for anyone set on that goal.  Disarming citizens does not disarm the bad guys or the crazy people.  And let us not forget the most important reason that we need to fight tooth and nail to keep our Second Amendment rights to bear arms.  That right was written into our Constitution for the very reason that “We, the People,” are allowed, if not required to throw off a dictatorial government that oppresses the people and the futures of our children.  This nation was born under, and because of the human right, and need, to be FREE.  We cannot allow this government to remove our birthright.  History explains quite adequately that prior to a tyrannical government usurping and fully oppressing the people, ALL privately owned guns are removed from private ownership, allowing unregulated power of government authority of the masses!  The fact that these events–these massacres–are happening in unnatural order, and in unnatural time frames, is telling and important and must be examined!  This is a dangerous time for all of us!
